Default Convertible Car Seat for 98 GS

Sorry,

I tried a search, but does anyone have experience / recommendations on a convertible car seat for toddlers in the back of the GS? fits fine? brands? installment issues?

Please note that I do not have the LATCH system, I only have the seatbelts.

There may be some kind of sacrilege involved with installing a car seat in your GS.

I don't disagree, but I'm trying to keep my GS and not be forced to by an RX.

Trust me, at least I'm trying to have it match my interior etc, and there are many folks trying to squeeze a car seat into an IS.

I used graco for my son and I had no problems just fold the armrest down for extra security and make sure the belt has good tension and always put a towel under the car seat so you won't crease your leather

They say you should strap your child in on the middle seat but the rear GS seat is bulged in the middle... my daughter leaned over and the whole seat toppled over to the side. I now have her on the passenger side. Just go to Babies'R'us.... there's plenty to choose from and make sure to get the seat protector mats....

Here you go,

the trick to with the seat belt style you have to pull the belt all the way out this will engage a lock once you have wrenched down on it with all of your weight. I have a 2.5 year old and he is cool in the rear passenger. Had to move the seat up a bit cause he starts to kick now that he is face foward.

Recaro FTW.....

I keep mine in the middle and use the clip that they give you for the seat belt. It will help keep the belt tight. problem with pulling it all the way out is eventually the seat will be leaning to that side cause the belt keeps getting tighter.

Here are my tips:

If anything look for one that has a flatter bottom as opposed to ones with feet. The flat ones will leave less of a mark in the leather. Get a car seat pad and put that down under the seat. I double up on mine. Don't go cheap on these if you want to avoid seat marks as much as possible. Get a good one.

Don't use the seat belt - use the straps that come with the car seat. They hook onto the rings on the left and right of the car seat between the upper and lower rear seat cushions. Also hook up the one that goes to the rear deck. I had to remove my center headrest while using my sons car seat since it had a high headrest.

If the chair falls over to one side or the other the straps are too loose. You can tighten the straps by placing your knee or hand (weight) in the chair and tightening the lower strap. the non-slip seat pads also help here.

I recently retired my GS from baby duty and moved the sear over to my Durango. The GS is now my wannabe bachelor car.

EDIT: I just noticed you have a 98. You will need to install all the car seat specific hardware if you wish not to use the seat belt. I put the TSB on this HERE.

Sorry, are you saying I order the part and attempt the installation, or does Lexus dealers do this, and how much? are TSB's free?

Secondly, use the straps from the seat? but I'm not sure the Britax Boulevard seat has its own?

Is getting the dealer to install LATCH worth it? estimated costs?

Thanks

You think thats bad, I have 2 car seats in mine. It is the family vehicle for now, I ride a supermoto. Soon the wife will have a SUV for all car seat duties though.

I have the recaro young sport in midnight desert in my 02, would have gotten charcoal if owned the 2gs when I got it to match my grey leather. So I use latch, however I have used the seatbelt before. They make ratchets for the seat belt and sell em at babies r us. Use them to tighten the belt uniformly. The recaro fits nicely on the side, never tried it in the middle.

And the Recaro is pimp as far as car seats go. Hey if you can't roll in a $1200 Recaro, at least your kid can roll in style and be safe.

Of and for sure use the pad, Prince Lionheart makes a nice sturdy one for $26, comes in biege and grey. It matches well, unless you have blk interior, then the grey will still look good.
