All of the GS people complain that the automatic tranny shift around 5800 to 6000 rpm will not reach the redline… complain… BMW Over rpm the engine is Normal…
My BMW 330 automatic hit/over the redline before shifting… (No.. not in tiptronic mod)
A BMW 330 has a redline of 6000. During aggressive drive kick down, the car will hit the redline 6250 before it start to up shift, just before shift is complete, it 6500. 500 over the redline.
Bring the car into the BMW service with concern.. (Least car.. don’t want my hand slap by the end of term for over rpm the engine)
As it turn out, the service technician said this is normal.. (WTF, shift past the redline is normal for automatic?) Also, the engine diag did not register any over rpm..
Either the BMW is under rate the redline.. or the guage is wrong..
As long as I am not at fault with over rpm the engine by the end of least term.. I am OK to redline the engine…

My best guess, the engineers at BMW have overstated the redline to give the drivers a little cushion.
My GS always will shift at the red line in Drive if so pushed.
Now, in Eshift, I can bounce off the rev limiter all day long if I wanted to, but that is bad, and I try to avoid that al all costs.

I can, matter fact my car is so well trained, I can easily hit the redline in 2 or 3 and when it does the car jerks cause the fuel shuts off.
SO yes it can be done. It takes MUCH pratice to keep the e-shift in gear and switch gears at redline. Took me over a year.
Does this help? In auto, it will not go past redline.

the factory gauge are not an acurate display, if you look at it, they are increase by 200rpm division.
Most of cars do not have every acurate tach display that is why you use aftermarket electronics.
but, from looking at my digital display, the lexus tach display is pretty accurate up to the smallest division (200rpm)
that is normal.
i am setting my shiftlight @5800, but I think i need to lower it down to 5700, because by the time I shift, it hits rev limit already, (or I need some more pratice to push my button quicker)
Sorry guys, i can't post any picture yet, I messed up my digital camera trying to document how to change oil and wire up the stereo system in the lexus. I had to order the new lense assembly from the manufacture, and they sent me the wrong part, so I am still waiting.

If u punch your car everytime like I do for sometime, your car will learn to hit rev-line. I can hit the rev-limiter when I want to. When the car is in normal I can punch it and it will shift at 6000rpm. But in e-shift I can basically rev as high as the engine will let me.

How would you compare the 0-60 times between your 330 and your GS4?
