Default Side View Mirror repair question

My side view mirror got busted while I was parked in a parking lot. Not sure how, somebody had to have hit it with a stick or something because there weren't many cars in the lot so nobody would have parked near my car. Anyway, I got this cut out mirror thing from Walmart that I cut the the shape of my mirror so I'm wondering if I should put it over the glas of try to knock the broken glass out and then put it there??? Thanks in advance

It's a heated mirror, so there may be heat film on the back of the original. You would lose that function if so. You should probably remove the original glass and glue the other on.

in addition, better to remove the glass and get a firm adhesion with new piece. If glass continues to fall off, the new piece you bough may fall off.

thanks for the responses. yeah I guess I will attempt to take the broken glass off. This is just gonna be a cheap $10 repair till I buy a new mirror. I think this temporary fix will actually look pretty good once I'm done
