Default NY inspection help

Quick question. When I purchased my gs it had a valid ny inspection. I have to renew my reg and the dmv is not letting me because they said I have to get it inspected again under my name. Now the problem is I recently got at o2 sensor CEL. Now I was thinking if I clear the CEL would it pass? I don't really feel like changing the sensor right now.

They won't pass you unless you fix the problem and clear the CEL. Of course if you know someone... then... yea.

No, not going to pass. In NY any cel on your car will fail it.

You can clear it, see how long it takes to come back, then try and clear it before the inspection and see if it goes through.

you can go ask your shop to clear the CEL. and you have to run you car up to 30miles, then go do the inspection. i think that will pass it. good luck!

Does it work like emissions does where if you clear it and don't drive XX amount of miles it says the system isn't ready?

That is true. If you reset the CEL and you don't complete the drive cycles you would Fail for the "Functional Check". You must drive the car until the monitors are completed. What I would do is drive it for 30 minutes normal driving condition and ask if the Smog Tech. would do a courtesy check on the System Monitors. Also, All States are different. So smog check regulations might be different. GL.

Like the previous post above just clear it out and get it inspected. Cheapest way would be park a block away from the shop and disconnect the battery for about 10-15 minutes. It'll reset everything and get rid of the CEL that way too (temporarily). Then drive up to the shop, I'm sure it won't trigger the sensor being bad within a block range of driving.
