Default painting taillights over the weekend

I was thinking about doing my first exterior modification to my stock 99 lexus gs400, I was thinking about purchasing the JP non-led tail lights but I am saving up money for my upcoming vacation. So, I have decided to paint the stock tail lights. (low budget version) I was thinking about painting the amber portion of the tail light to the matching red and leave the white (reverse lens) alone. My question is, is there anyone else out there that did this to their stock gs tail lights and have pictures? and if i was going to buy a candy apple red spray paint(im assuming thats the closest to matching the tail lights color) which one do you guys reccomend that will stay intact to the tail lights and not fade with all seasons? Thanks.

You can pick up the taillight from me if you like, but it's the LEDs ones.

You can do the tail mod, remove the amber from the inside. Pretty clean IMO.

Here is mine. Did it about 3 years ago when i got the car.

You can go to any model shop and pick up candy apple transparent red and a can of clear coat if you dont already have.

I think the OP wants to do it on 99 tails.

Just pointing this out to avoid confusion, especially because Jrezo just pointed out that you can remove the amber, which is true, but ONLY on the "older" 98-2000 tails. You cannot remove the amber on the 2001-up tails.

Again just want to avoid confusion.

onihc- VERY NICE if I had the extra money to spend I would definitely pick up a set of jp non-led tail lights and use the vinyl or red transparent paint. duby1- hey thanks for letting me know your selling a set of the taillights unfortunately im on a budget. Jrezo- thanks this is exactly what I am aiming for at the moment. I have a question for you, do you need to bake your taillights to remove the lens to get to the amber lens? thanks again!

^^^ hey i wouldnt even try to bake them and take out the amber. your most likely going to break it, because they are really hard to take apart. What i would do would be just paint over the amber. really easy and looks just as good.

i dont kno how quickly u wanna get this done but there are ppl who sell red tint sheets that are made for ur lights. here's a link to one on eBay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Red-O...#ht_5064wt_840

other than that you could go for the tinted tailight look like i got. my lights dont look amber until the turn signal actually turns on. jus sum ideas to throw around.
