Default That ol' CEL, VSC lights "chestnut", different twist...

Hi guys, I have a 99 GS400 with that old CEL light, VSC light, and VSC off light problem. The same issue most have had with the throttle not responding, etc...So it's at the dealership right now, and the tech couldn't figure it out. They replaced the throttle position motor, but that didn't fix the problem. When I talked to the Service Rep yesterday I mentioned "Club Lexus Forums" and what a valuable tool it has been in my research....he sounded offended that I even mentioned it. In my research here on these forums, someone had the same problem and repaired it by replacing the APPS (accelerator pedal position sensor) then re-adjusting the TPS (throttle position sensor).

So all that to ask this question: If I get to the dealership today and they still haven't fixed my baby, how do I politely tell them that I found the problem and this is how to fix it? Having been an aircraft mechanic myself, I know first-hand that mechanics hate it when someone comes in thinking that they know it all.....
Thanks for your help.

Having worked at dealerships as a mechanic I empathize with your situation. I have found that you just have to be bold and tell them up front what your thoughts are on the situation. Either way (wether what you tell them leads to the fix or not) they are going to think you're an ***hole. But when you turn out to be right, the end result is the car is fixed right, you probably saved money and time from fixes that didn't fix the problem, and you will be on the road enjoying your vehicle.

Yeah, Lexus-trained mechanics could NOT figure out a common problem for the GS? At $70+ an hour, they had their chance. F' em. Tell 'em what to check. They're a$$ho!es themselves for acting offended -- are you supposed to give them a credit card and tell 'em go till you find it??

remember, you're the customer. Lexus service managers will usually kiss your butt because they want you to come back and buy a new one.
