Video/DVD/TV on stock Nav screen - no problem !!!

group buy??
Just curious since quite a few people here seems not to have the factory nav option on their cars, and have expressed wish to have one. I've read on this forum before that it's too difficult to get factory nav installed by the dealer, is it really impossible? is it the cost or the technical aspects?
Is it possible to get a group buy to lower the cost a bit? (I hope this question does not violate any rules, just want to find out if there is possibility or interest)

with aftermarket ones, do you need to replace the entire headunit? I am trying to minimize the front console modification. Can you just add on the nav part? Maybe I need to take a trip out to a stereo store, any rec on so cal shops that can do this?

Okay, I have a 430 with what looks like the same type of connectors in the trunk. Let's say all I wanted to do was have like a "Y" connector, so that I could (at will) connect to either the NAV or a DVD player (through a composite-->RGB converter). I realize I would have to go in the trunk every time I wanted to do this. If this is all I need could I do it just for the cost of the composite-->RGB converter, a DVD player, and the "Y" connector? Forget about audio for the moment...

Yes, this can be done in the LS430. There are 3 or 4 ways to get video on the navigation screen.
1. Use Pioneer AVC-RGB1 (composite video -> RGB converter) and a 4 pole switching relay. The Pioneer AVC-RGB1 is a discontinued part.
2. Use a Pioneer GEX-P7000TV. This does not require a switching relay as the GEX will do the switching between video and navigation.
3. Use another automotive TV tuner that RGB input and output.
As for my LS430, not only do I use Pioneer GEX-P7000TV but also the Pioneer AVM-P9000R for 3-D user interface for my audio/video system with Dolby Digital/DTS.

Yes Toog4me, it will work on the IS with nav or on any car with nav. The wires RGB and Sync is there for the picture and sound. I think the nav on the IS is in perfect spot, right on top of the dash.

I understand that you are eagerly awaiting this but you have lived this long without it and I think that you could wait until I am finished to have this done. I have been working on this very hard but have also a lot of other work to do in the meantime and have been unable to finish everything.
Actually I did solve the "invisible menu" problem. Also I find out the way, how to do that modification without any changes at GEX site (do not brake the original Pioneer warranty).
