GS300 owners feel they should have gotten the V8 instead?

BUY A 400 or 430!!! I got the 300 at a price I couldn't refuse, so I took it. Otherwise, I would have gotten the v8. 300 is still a very good car; however, for the same amount of money and gas I would definitely get the v8.

That's funny.... I drive a GS430 and I wish I had to do it all over again! I would have bought a cheap a$$ GS300, and either gone NA-T or GTE, either or... With that being said, I am sure happy with the engine, and don't have any complaints other than like NO ONE makes performance parts for us V8 guys... And NOW... If I had to do it all over again, I would for the cheapest, but nicest conditioned 2GS, 300 or 400 and I would have put either a built GTE or an LSx.
I love engine work!!!
Mama always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all." I mean, what your saying isn't far off, but you do understand that with little less than what it would cost for us to buy a supercharger intake manifold, a GS300 would easily push over 300rwhp. I have yet to find a manifold for less than $1,500, and JeffTsai definitely laid out a cost chart of what it would take, and for $1,800 I think he said it would put you around 350rwhp.... If you ask any FI member, turbo or supercharged, how much they have spent in total, you will hardly find a cheap build. Now, that's just me, I like/love to wrench, so that doesn't stop me from swapping/building motors, finances do. I wouldn't ever dare boost a 3UZ because it goes for over $5,000 on eBay. A 2JZGTE with a Getrag 6 Speed is around the same price, $500 more than the cheapest 3UZ, and $600 less than the most expensive 3UZ. Maybe your right, the stock GS300 isn't much fun to drive, but with far less work and cost, you could easily beat 98% of GS V8s... Not to mention the stock 2JZGTE has a greater output than the 1/3UZ.. Sorry, I was bored in class and wanted to talk.

This is funny. I was looking for a 300. Found the perfect 300 (with saddle) but the dealership would not drop the price for nothing. I went home to think about it and he called me and asked if i would like a 430. I really did not want a V8 at the time. So, then I played hard ball. Long story short. I got the 430 and I have NO complaints.

A friend of mine had bought a new gs400 back in 2000 and paid a pretty penny for it too. I remember riding in that and driving it a few times and always thought it had tons of torque and was fast enough to be plenty of fun.
When I got mine about 4 months ago the 300's and 400's were around the same price range for 98-00 so I could have gotten either. I found a 300 that was in such excellent condition all around, I went with it knowing the 2jz had lots potential depending own how far you want to take it. And just planned to turbo it someday.
I knew it would be slower than the 400, but dang it's real slow. It's the smoothest, most relaxing, car I've had. And that's great. It will rock and roll on the freeway 100+ no problem, but around town and getting it to go from a stop is down right boring..
So far as a newer owner, if I didn't want to turbo it I would be wishing I had the 400 for sure. If you like work on stuff yourself and take on the car as a project then the 300 I feel is a great platform.

i dislike my 300, pretty gutless. but as someone else said, no 400 or 430 in Aus lame, god knows why since a large proportion of family sedans here are V8 powered (e.g. Holdens and Fords).
300 is slow compared to my old cars, but no slow in general just driving around. But i would prefer the V8 for some extra pick up on the freeways that i daily drive, and also for the noise and ability to do an easy burnout now and then lol
