i love my car so don't get me wrong but fluctuating gas prices in California helped me in making a decision between a 6 or 8 cylinder car. i went with the six plus the car i found was immaculate except for a few rock chips on the hood bumper area.(typical)..

Anyways today i took my boss and 2 others to a steak joint for lunch and had to make a quick lane change only to slow down and let a car pass while changing lanes. i felt like crap cause they have all ridden in my car when it was just 2 of us and it performed nicely but today i had to let the other car pass. I was thinkin i should have gotten a 400 in my head but just said it was because of their phat asses was the reason. hahaha they are not fat but i had to make an excuse to cover up my baby's lack of power. So i guess in times of need i wish i had a V8 and in daily driving i am glad to have a straight 6.. So i am torn.. i like the power of the 400 but love the reliability and MPGs of the 300. (hard to admit but yea i wish i got a 400 cause my daily round trip commute to work is under 15miles so that is not a factor).

I think i just need to keep modding it to make it "more"..so far all i have is a exhaust on the performnce side. Maybe my VTEC is off?!

I just kinda bumped into the 430, sold my 472 RWHP Turboed Mustang for a daily (see sig, you'll understand why I wanted a daily...), I was looking at the 300's, but I wanted either blue or black, and was pretty set on those two colors. Well, went on craigshelper, searched within 500 miles of Charlotte, NC, found my GS430 in Baltimore, black on black, for $7400. Can't complain, haven't driven a 300, but the 430 has plenty of power, while getting 23 MPG. Love it.

???

No way jose, coming from somebody that owned 2 supercharged Mustangs and 1 turboed one, turbo's definitely the way to go, all day every day. Superchargers put way more strain on the motor. You can turbo a car and at a responsible amount of boost you're just fine, superchargers basically always need engine work.

so from what I have read, it seems to me the 400/430 really has better performance over the 300 and yet the mpg is not that big of a different.

Many 300 owners (in CL) do mod their 300 in order to gain more HP and be happy with that. So we can pretty much agree a stock 300 is underpower.

In terms of market value, there isn't much different between the 300/400/430 so I guess the V8 is a better buy. I have seen many people driving the 300, not too many with the 430. Maybe because it cost so much more back then for the V8.

Good info guys

That may be true, but from a cost and fabrication perspective it's not practical to go turbo due to space constraints. The old SC kits offered by RMM and SRT were bolt on affairs and easily installed in 2 days. Also the decision to go GS3 or GS4 depends on how much HP you ultimately want. The GS4 motor is good for about a 150 HP gain before needing to beef the tranny, followed by internals. At that point, the bang for the buck goes out the window. There is very little aftermarket support for the GS4 motor or tranny. No significant bolt ons, so it’s all custom work and very little R&D info or technical expertise available. If we only had the luxury of all the performance items and technical information available for the Mustang I'd be in heaven. On the other hand the GS3 motor platform has a ton of aftermarket support and a ton of knowledge can be leveraged off the SupraTT.

So if people want power up to 400rwHP supercharging a GS4 is the most cost effective. If people want around 450HP to 800HP then get a GS3 and go turbo and be prepared to spend a ton of money as you head closer to 800.

Side Note: A Supercharged GS4 gets about 22mpg on the freeway if you can keep your foot off of it.

EDIT-Admittedly Supercharging is cost effective if and only if you can find an existing old kit. I never said it was going to be easy.

I have yet to find a manifold for less than $1,500, and JeffTsai definitely laid out a cost chart of what it would take, and for $1,800 I think he said it would put you around 350rwhp.... If you ask any FI member, turbo or supercharged, how much they have spent in total, you will hardly find a cheap build. Now, that's just me, I like/love to wrench, so that doesn't stop me from swapping/building motors, finances do. I wouldn't ever dare boost a 3UZ because it goes for over $5,000 on eBay. A 2JZGTE with a Getrag 6 Speed is around the same price, $500 more than the cheapest 3UZ, and $600 less than the most expensive 3UZ. Maybe your right, the stock GS300 isn't much fun to drive, but with far less work and cost, you could easily beat 98% of GS V8s... Not to mention the stock 2JZGTE has a greater output than the 1/3UZ.. Sorry, I was bored in class and wanted to talk.
true but still dollar for dollar and stock to stock the gs300 is a turd compared to the gs430.

your saying for 5k you can get a boosted 2jzgte swap with a 6 speed and make bout what 400-500hp but for 5k can you not boost the v8 with a SC and get about that HP or close to it?

pretty much....if u comparing stock to stock go for the gs430 now if you gonna mod....do the gs300 and mod her, she has more aftermarket support and potential.but stock u cant even compare the two IMHO....

No Regrets, yes the extra power would be nice, but without it gives me more motivation to keep it and boost it, plus I don't have a car payment which is also a +.

Definitely stock for stock, the 400/430 is the better choice. However, as others have mentioned, potential is better for the 300. I am fortunate to be able to own 3 different versions of the mighty GS: a turbocharged GS300, a supercharged GS400, and a stock GS400. My GS3 is currently at 350whp, and is a whoot to drive, especially when the boost kicks in, and with the potential to be up around 500-600 whp (or more) when I am ready; the SC'd GS4 is pretty much maxed out at 390 whp (RMM SC) and is a bruiser, instantly blasting forward when I hit the go fast pedal; and the stock GS 400 is a very reliable, but still competent performer. I could never go back to a stock 300.
