new key re-programming?

if your using the same remote then you dont have to reprogram the key. i bought a new key off ebay and had it cut and just switched over the inner remote and everything worked fine.

Do the ebay keys come with the chip to actually be reprogrammed though?
When I bought the car, it only came with one key...
So if I lose it...
Well I don't even want to think about the money I'd have to shell out to get new keys/ignition afjkdshflasdfasdf
Anyway... back to my question?

Know this thread is kinda old but oh well here it goes anyway. I bought a key of eBay for like 90 or 100 with chip in it and it was like $30 I believe to have it cut and it came with instructions to copy settings from another key. You need another key to copy from! or else you have to go the new ignition route or whatever it takes. My quote from lexus for a new key was $250 plus the $75 to program. You can at least save some dough buying the key from Ebay and if you want to change the settings on the key you'll have to fork over the money to Lexus
