Default Pictures of custom SRT intake enclosure....

Hi guys,

I have attached a few pictures of my custom SRT intake enclosure in the GS430. It should work on the GS400 as well.

Current construction material:
1/8" Poron foam inside, .09" AL sheet metal, 1/8" Poron foam outside. Finish = black Anodized

This is a prototype unit. I would like some feed back from you guys. The production unit will have the black powdercoat finish.

This is my experience after I installed the box.....

1. For some odd reason, I feel that the car is pulling harder with the enclosure system. Garnet92 and some of the members can testify this.

2. Unless I am under 3/4 - full throttle, the noise almost doesn't exist.

3. The sound under full throttle has a deeper tone similar to those big V8 American muscle cars.

Looks great! Would be interested in your observations after driving under other conditions (hotter / colder weather, different humidity, high speed on highway, sudden stops). I seem to recall someone else (maybe DavidGS4) building one of these and having issues with stalling or stuttering - likely due to the difference in expected airflow over the intake.

Sorry Doc.... did mean to get you upset.....

Dave,
Thanks for the feedback. If I can recall correctly, I believe DavidGS4 was refering to an external duct that he had tried. It was designed to feed more air to the after market filter. However, it produced undesireble air flow pattern to the MAS sensor.

The main reason that I designed this enclosure is to reduce noise and insolate as much heat away from the filter as possible. Many members on CL has a similar set up just with different enclosure design. As a matter fact, Weapon R has their own enclosure for their intake.

Garnet92 has just recently installed a Weapon R enclosure on his SRT intake system. He and I are experiencing many similar observations with the enclosed system on the SRT intake. I am trying to test the car under different situation as much as I can. So far, I haven't encounter any weird behavior due to the enclosure.

I will keep you guys posted.

Cool

Hey Kajukenbo:

Maybe you can send a prototype to Static911 on their dyno next week. It will be nice to see the difference between your cabinet and the SRT's heat shield setup on their intake system.

I was thinking about getting a intake system but worry about the hot engine air issue reducing the low end power. I had a aftermarket intake with a K&N cone filter but without a heat shield on my previous SC400. I lost considerable HP and Torque at the low end. End up removing the aftermarket intake and modify the stock airbox instead. Your setup seems to be logical.

Any way you can take a picture of how your cabinet looks inside?

How much are you going to charge for this cabinet?

Chu...

Your car looks sweet! Nice wheels! Nice custom work on your intake box, it has a nice clean factory look. GJ!

Kaju,

I have a 01 430 and I'm interested in the CAB. How much would it cost to FAB one? Or should I ask how much could I buy it from you? PM me.

That is a very professional looking CAB, nicely done! Personally, if I were to market this piece, I would offer color choices in the anodizing or powder coating. While yours looks great, it seems like kind of a shame to have engineered this nice piece of work, and have it blend in with the rest of the engine bay because it looks like a factory piece. Please don't take offense to this, I'm just saying that it looks so good, I'd want it to jump out at me when I opened the hood!
