Default Fan stays on after key is removed from ignition.

After driving home from work in the rain, I removed the key and the engine fans came on.. fans stayed on til the battery died the next morning. Also, there was a knocking sound every couple seconds from the engine compartment! If I put the key back in to the acces. position the fan turns off.
If you figure this out , you're awesome!!!

Hmmm. Maybe the temperature sensor is going bad or the fan control module needs to be replaced. Did you ever spill excessive amounts of coolant over the radiator area?

It's possible that the rain may have somehow shorted the fan control module.

Yes. They are two separate parts.

As you have already taken care of the fan relay unit, you could really have numerous other problems. I'm not saying you do, but it could be just one of many things.

It could be anything from the electronic fan control unit which I believe the GS has, to a thermostat issue, but coming and going with the rain more than likely means it's an electrical issue. Another thing is, the fan turns on whenever the AC is on, so maybe there's an issue with that?

Here's a small list of things that could be the issue.

Thermostat/Temperature Sensor
Fan control Module
Fan Relay Unit
Electric Fan Control Unit

The most reasonable thing to do is bring it to the stealership and have them find the problem. Then just buy the part and replace it on your own if you can.

and thanks haha. I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable person when it comes to cars, but doing some research on CL and the internet in general can sure make me seem that way. I just do what I can to help you. I appreciate the kind words and hope you resolve this issue soon.
