Default Only passenger door won't open via key fob

When I press the button to unlock all doors, all doors but the passenger door unlock. This just started yesterday while I was at the mall.

Is a bad door lock actuator the most likely culprit or is there any other known problem on the 98 GS's?

Yeah its a common problem for them to go out. You can rebuild them. There's another thread that teaches you how to do it.

Best guess it its the actuator.

try removing the door panel and check the door lever mechanism...sometimes the cable pops out from the lever assembly...you may just need to secure it back in there.

Nope, no luck on it just being the cable.

Ok, so it's been a year and I was overseas most of the past year and I'm finally back and ready to fix this. I found the Mabuchi motors to rebuild the actuator on ebay and don't see this as being too difficult to do.

One question though, for you guys that had the motor burn out in the actuator, did you hear the motor trying to unlock or lock? I guess what I'm asking is, could it be a fuse, relay or connector causing the door lock to not respond? I don't hear any sound, not even the motor spinning.

Sound exactly like what happened to me. Does it open when you unlock it from the inside. Mine quit doing that as well--->bad actuator.

No, doesn't work from the inside either. Wasn't sure if could be a loose connection somewhere or if there is a relay that could be bad. Occasionally the passenger door will open when you hit unlock on the key or the unlock all doors button.

Yeah, I thing your actuator is going out. I'd check the connections like PHML said first and if that doesn't work, then a new actuator or a rebuild is the way to go. This problem is common for our cars. There is a DIY on it at the beginning of our GS2 forums--it's a STICKY.

When you press the unlock button on the fob can you hear the culprit door attempting to unlock?

Also, what is the weather like in your neck of the woods? This is relevant because it's been covered that when it gets REALLY cold the temperature messes with some of the locking mechanisms.

Just trying to eliminate all the easy stuff before you go off on working on the actuator.

Yea, I'm with you, definitely wouldn't mind exploring all other possible causes prior to rebuilding the actuator. The passenger door has been acting up both during cold and warm days, so that's probably not it.

I don't hear anything from the passenger door at all. I thought that even with a bad/weak/worn out actuator you still may hear it trying to unlock the door. Then again if the motor is burnt out completely there would be silence, so from what I've read thus far the motor inside the actuator is burnt out.

Yeah, I'm from New England and we've been feeling the winter elements a lot lately. My rear passenger side door refuses to lock electronically when it is less than twenty degrees outside. The actuator and everything is fine, it just is fussy when it gets really cold out. But good luck man.
