Default How do I clean the headlight lens?

I was out tonight looking at my headlights and saw how dull and dirty the lens covers looked so I go in and get some glass cleaner and clean them up, but it seems they are dirty and dull from the inside. Is there a way to clean the lens from the inside or any other solutions I could try?

Thumbs up

I used to have like water stains inside my headlights too. Someone from this forum mentioned about using Meguiar (sp?) plastic cleaner and plastic polish. I've used it and the stains that looked to be inside were all gone after one application. If you will do a search maybe you'll find somebody else's experience using porter-cable polisher/buffer. Good luck.

Get a buncha sharp rocks (or sand) and start rubbing it against the headlight

There is nothing wrong with the ones I have, just want to know the best way to get that haze off the lens.

plastic polish should do it. Maybe if it doesn't work with your hand, use a buffer, or stop by an autobody shop and ask them to buff it out for you.

I agree...in fact, if you do a search now just put "lexus gs400" and there is a pair going for real cheap. I was gonna bid on it myself but relized my HIDs are fine.

what i've tried in cleaning stains on the outside of my lights is this. first i use some WD-40 to clean off some of the dirt and stains. make sure you wipe it dry when your done. after that, i use regular turtle wax on the headlights, just lightly buffing it. when i'm done, the lights are clean and clear once again. i've even taken off some scratch marks on my lights from the dealership buffering over into my lights when they were buffing my hood with this method.

I have the same problem with the blurry lenses... looks like it's comming from the inside of the lens itself... I'd probably do what cgatch said and clean it with the mcguire's plastic cleaner and polish... are those lens covers hard to take out of the car?

Try some EZ-Off...yes, the oven cleaner...spray it on there, let it sit for a few minutes...then rub off...don't get any on your paint...

industry secret...shhhh....

Best thing to do:

If you car is still under warranty, take it to the dealership and tell them that both of your headlights are fogging up when it rains. Tell them that you think there may be a leak in the sealing of the lights and that you are having a problem seeing the road clearly. Lay out some bull***** to them.....trust me, they will replace it.

I did it, and they replaced both of my headlights!!!!

Just a thought
