Default NEed help, just purchased 19" g35 wheels, what tires ?

Hey, like the title says I just purchased some 19 inch wheels for my 1998 gs. They are the 19 x 8 and 19 x 8.5 "rays" I think. I need to know if anyone here knows a good size to go with and why.

Thanks here are a few pics of my ride currently. I'll be reporting back with pics of the ride with the new led tails as well

If you plan on slamming your car (as in really slamming your car), 225/35/19 and 245/35/19.

If stock height or very mild drop and looking for comfort, just go with the stock g35 tire sizes, 225/40/19 and 245/40/19.

I have those rims. Im about to run a new setup with 235/35/19 up front and 245/45/19 in the back. i have a mild drop of 2 inches. my tire guru at work says i will fill out my fenders really nice with this setup. i'll let you know how my setup works when i get the tires. i currently have 245/35/19 on the back and i still have a noticeable space. so imma be closing that up with the new tires.

Forgive me for sounding like a **** but I seriously pride on doing things properly and half the posts in the thread are wrong and misleading.

Hate to break it to you but the side wall on 225/40R19 and 245/35R19 are the same

That is a super weird tire size combination With the setup you just mentioned your rear tire is going to be over 2" taller than your front tire. And if you drop it 2.25" it will definitely rub in the rear not to mention its so oversized it will throw off the speedo and look completely ridiculous. The proper tire setup for those wheel size combination would be...

Front: 225/40R19 or 235/35R19
Rear: 245/35R19

The second number in the tire size (235/??R19) is a percentage. It is not measured in mm or inches.

For example :
215/45 and 235/40 have the exact same height in side wall. This is why in most cases in staggered setups the second number is smaller in the rear because you should have the same tire height all around. There are exceptions like the 350Z and G35 (coupe) their setup is actually a little taller in the rear right out of the factory 225/40R19 and 245/40R19

Believe me when I say I know what I'm talking. Anyone who says they are going to from 245/45R19 on a 2GS is an idiot. Pardon me for being blunt, but thats over 2" taller in diameter than what is called for. It would look like a jacked up 4x4 and look completely ridiculous.

Your "tire guru" has no fu*king idea what he's talking about. Sorry. Your current tire setup is proper, if you want to close the gap lower the car, don't get retarded oversized tires.

IMO an 8" rim needs a 245/40, and a 8.5 rim needs a255 or 265/35 for the tires to fit correctly without any stretch.

My stock sportdesign has 255's on it and its only a 7.5 rim IIRC.

I currently have a 8.5 front and 9.5 rear with a 245 and 265 and they do not fit all the way, they are still stretched. SO next tires will be a 265 front and a 285 rear.

I can snap you a shot of a falken fk452 that is a 245/40 mounted if you want so you can see.

This quote just goes to show you can't always believe what you read on the net. The information in your post is compltely false. I've worked with both Toyo and Pirelli tires.

The factory 2GS 17" is 17x8 with 235/45R17 and is a perfect fit with no stretch at all. When a low profile tire's side wall is straight this is not stretched. No tire size is specific to just one size rim. Most sizes have a 2" range. For example 235/45R17 fits a 7.5-9 properly and fits ideal on a 8"

Please take a look at this tire size chart from Toyo Tires

There is NO WAY the 16" Sport Design came factory with 255's. The factory size is 215/60R16 and 225/55R16 on the Sport Design. To even say anything this ridiculous just goes to show you have no clue as to what you're talking about. If you don't believe me look on the inside of the driver's door jam. Your factory size will be listed in there.

I think you have the wrong idea on what stretched tires. Your 245 on a 8.5 and your 265 on your 9.5 should be a perfect fit with no stretch. The tire setup you want to go with (265 front and 285 rear) with cause your tires to seriously "crown" which is the opposite to stretching causing the size walls to bubble out past the rim. This will result in loss of performance and handling.
