Default GS400 manual shift mode problem (Solved)

I recently bought a 98 gs4 which drives great. The transmission changes out with no problem. But when I shift into manual mode i just get a flashing "M" on the indicator and the car drives as if it was in regular mode. I saw in another post that i should try to reset the ecu, i did that but i still have the same problem. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

See post. #7 for solution

I would first make sure to check all connections/harness to the transmission. If one of the connectors is not solid, then this will occur. The other reason may be a bad solenoid. But check the connectors first. This is directly from the manual.

9. MANUAL SHIFTING TEST
HINT: By this test, it can be determined whether the trouble is within
the electrical circuit or is a mechanical problem in the transmis-
sion.
(a) Disconnect the solenoid wire.
(b) Inspect the manual driving operation.
Check that the shift and gear positions correspond to the
table below.
While driving, shift through the L, 2, 3, 4 (or M) and D posi-
tions. Check that the gear change corresponds to the shift
position.
Shift Position Gear Position
D 5th
4 (or M) 5th
3 4th
2 3rd
L 3rd
R Reverse
P Pawl Lock
HINT:
If the L, 2, 3, 4 (or M) and D gear positions are difficult to distin-
guish, do the above read test.
If any abnormality is found in the above test, the problem is in
the transmission itself.

(c) Connect the solenoid wire.
(d) Clear out the DTC (See page DI–342).

I didn't get a chance to do the test yet but I hooked the car up to obd scanner and it said p0763(shift solenoid ). If I bought the solenoid, could I change it myself or would I have to take it to the shop? Also where on the tranny is it located?

I took the car to shop and got it fixed for $100. The guy just removed solenoid C which the problem and cleaned it and now manual mode works and the car feels way faster.
