Default Car Vibrates When Idle

Hey guys, anyone of you have this problem? I noticed my car tends to vibrate a bit when I'm shifted into D and idled, but when I turn on my AC, the car is smooth. Any info would be appreciated.

GSquicksilver:

Exact same thing happens to me, but I don't know why. I run my AC most of the time, so I don't notice it all that much.

I've changed my plugs once and don't recall much of a difference in the rough idle... Could this be TPS related?

I just changed my plugs a few days ago. Got the OEM Iridium plugs too and my car is at 60K miles. It's still vibrating even with the new plugs. I read a while back about something TPS. Can someone give more info on this please???? Thanks!

That normal condition with A/C off. It's the programming in the ECM, all the GS doing this. You will feel more when driving for a while and comes to complete stop with A/C off. The car almost shut off and the idle is below 500 rpm. Don't worry your car is fine.

I had almost the same problem as you just mention back in August. But I don't really use my AC that much. I took my car in (99' GS4) every two to three weeks and they said that they couldn't find what I was describing to them (the vibration at idle).
After about seven or eight time in telling them about the same problem, he finally took me over and talked to the tech. I told him what was happening. The tech. knew what I was talking about. It turns out that the throdle body was bad, it was about a thousand dollar part but it was cover under my warrenty.
After that part was fixed, the problem went away. I'm just now a little uder 35K miles on my car. When this was happening I was at about 27K miles.
I would just ask them to look into changing the throdle body (hopefully you still have warrenty).

Check out the posts re TPS or idle. Almost 99% sure, it's the TPS.

Default Idle.

Your TPS (throttle positioning sensor) needs to be
recalibrated. It's not expensive and it's quick. And
afterwards your car will idle just fine.

Default Getting Ripped Off?

My first post so please take it easy on me!

After twice getting check engine lights and vsc lights go on the past 1500 miles my local dealer, Serramonte Lexus in NorCal, told me I needed to replace my TPS. Part was ~$250 and labor ~$150.

Does anyone know of a reputable mechanic in the area that could do this work for me or a contact at another Lexus dealer that won't charge me these prices?

I've had nothing but good experiences with Serramonte Lexus up until this point so I am kinda surprised (pissed more like it) after searching through the threads that this shouldn't cost no more than a hundred bucks. They even offered me a courtesy vehicle to drive to LA over the weekend since my car started acting up before the trip. Suffice to say I had no problems during the weekend.

No. TPS is not part of powertrain. However, you can argue that TPS is part of intake/throttle component and therefore qualifies for smog emission related equipment. I think you have a much longer warranty on emission devices.

Default Warranty.

I completely back what whitels is saying.
They should cover it, if not under one warranty
than under another.
