Default Inner headlights??

Hey everyone,

I'm a fairly new Lexus owner (just got my GS300 (2003) in December 09!!) and the inner headlights (not sure what they are called), but they stay on ALL the time and I cannot figure out how to turn them off!! It's annoying if I'm parking and sitting in my car with the lights off, but just those two little lights stay on... does anyone know how to turn these off? Someone told me to push in the parking brake, but that definitely didn't work!! I've searched the forums, but since I don't really know what those little lights are called, I couldn't find what I was looking for!

Help a lady out

Lex

They're called "Daytime Running Lights" or DRL for short. They're supposed to stay on for safety.

Actually the using the parking brake does work. The car must be started with brake on. So if you try doing this while its running it will not work. Put on the brake, shut off the car then restart it. You shouldn't have to take the key out just wait a second or 2 before restarting the car. If you don't want them on all the time while driving do what I used to do in my Celica as this parking brake "trick" works in all toyota's and most GM's and other makes too. LIGHTLY tap the parking brake so you hear maybe 1 small click or possibly no sound at all then start the car. In most cases just this small amount is enough to trigger the lights off but NOT actually engage the parking brake. As driving around with the parking brake is really bad news.

Wtf? No haha, it's like a 5 minute easy mod to do it, it would be harder to pull the bulbs out, plus they look good at night with the lights on.

If you wanted to do something more permanent other than the emergency brake tip, you can type "disable the daytime running lamps" into the search function and it should bring up a Do It Yourself thread on how you can permanently turn off the DRLs. I just did it and found a result in less than 5 seconds It does require you to disconnect something in your engine compartment so that may or may not deter you from doing it. Good luck and congratulations on the GS.

How do you figure??? it would take the same amount of time to. Turn the clip 90 deg. pull the bulb stick back in the light turn 90 deg. x2 Boom and done. No home made wires tinkering w/ fuse box etc.

Yeah, but the passenger side is kinda tough to get to, need smaller hands. Plus no high beams. Blegh. Oh and you get a light on the dash, which is annoying.

There a jumper you can make on the fuse box by the battery. you remove one fuse and make the jumper to another fuse for the drl fuse location....takes like 2 min to do

Easy or not, you would be taking out the high beam bulb altogether if you did that.

The later model gs uses the high beam bulb at a lower wattage for DLR.. Your thinking of the small wedge bulb in the same housing which is the parking light.

just cut the wires quicker than unplugging ...but you'll be sorry later on though

I'm thinking of ways to incorporate the DRL into my FX-R Yellow Lens ECE FX Bi-Xenon replica Projectors in the High beam area. I just want them on all day and night for safety. Plus ^^^ it looks good at night.
