K Harty,

I was just reviewing the last entries and you asked about running a wire directly from the battery to the hu. If you actually just take a t-splice you can tap into the batt wire on the Nak wiring harness which will save you having to string another wire through the firewall (which are always a pain) You don't need to use 12 guage as 16 or 18 will do. Hu's don't pull that much juice to warrant that large of a gauge.

I t-splice my batt, constant, and ground into the wiring harness. If I was to sell the car all I need to do is cut the wire and leave the t-splice on and black tape the end to ensure nothing touches the wire I just cut.

hope that answers the question.

Cheers!

Big mahalo to "jcastaneda" and Kyle for your help! The wires matched up perfectly. Saved me a lot of time. Now I'm pounding again...boom*boom!

I like the Alpine head unit for it's sound quality but the angle is a little too much. I'm not able to use the remote from certain angles. And the button to drop the face (upper left corner) is difficult to press open.

Plans for this weekend include cutting a longer speaker wire for the sub and conceal for a cleaner install. Happy to be rolling with a real sub compared to the 6 ohm Nak.

This should be pretty close. but you will want to verify with a multimeter. Let me know if you need help with this...I just recently put a Clarion in my 99 GS400 and had no issues.
is this the same for a 2000 GS400?

i am not sure if it is...pretty close to year model. You can get back there and look. Take a volt meter to verify the wires.

WTG Toyboy...the install looks nice and clean. I wish I would of made my box small enough to fit on the back deck. I decided to take up the whole trunk...I will post pictures when its all put together. Should be this Friday. DDs are the way to go...i have 2 DDs myself. I couldn't help but notice your ground. Do you have a ground going to each amp and one to the car from the battery?

Thanks for the compliment. The DD is a 3512. Regarding the ground wires, Kinetik recommends grounding the amps to the battery but the battery itself is just grounded to the body. I didn't think I could fish another 4 ga. wire through the hole in the firewall.

The enclosure was built to fit my previous car, an Acura Integra. I got lucky that it fit in the GS perfectly. Only problem is the Fosgate amp. It stopped working yesterday and I'm bummed. Tried switching the remote wire from the Gladius to the Fosgate but it still didn't turn on. Now I gotta buy another sub amp.

DD FTW! Almost went with a 3512 for my GS, my old ES had a 9515 in the back with a DD 3 way front stage.

Toyboy300, can you point out specifically which wire you used for ground? I'm gonna try grounding directly to the chassis first but it'd be nice to have the option to use the harness. Hard to know which way will be a better ground until you try it.

It is possible to ground to the battery. But what I've found that works best is that everything has it's own ground. That will ensure there is no engine noise that comes through the speakers. The chassis is the best place to ground your amps. If you find you have engine noise (best way to tell is turn the stereo on but turn the volume all the way down and drive...if you hear the whine it's engine noise) but another ground down...I have to put 2 grounds down on my battery. And then each amp has its own.

Also make sure you do The Big Three....upgrade your ground wire from your battery to the chassis. Upgrade the wire from your alternator to your battery and then upgrade your ground from your engine block to your battery...you will get cleaner power that way.

So your Fosgate...make sure you have a solid ground...try grounding to the chassis before you go and buy another one....check your fuses....check the voltage on the amp....check the voltage on the remote....(kick it.....just kidding). I know this is all obvious but I just want to make sure you try all options before spending a couple hundred on a new amp...if you need to buy a new amp....might I suggest a DD to go along with the 3512....

Hope this helps.

you like the flames....haha...yea I vinyled the box and the ends kept coming up so I had to think of something to fix that....I found these stickers on line...

I tried everything to put the speakers under the door panels but they were just too deep. If I put them behind the door panel it would hit the window as it came down. If I put a spacer in there I couldn't put the door panel back on. So this was the best way...

However after hearing it you'd forget all about where the speakers were placed.

hmmm....that explains it, i guess. (couldn't u have cut into the speaker grille on the inside with a smaller spacer to try and make it fit. oh well, so why did u put the tweeter in the door?

i might forget bout it while listening to it till i had to open my door and see that....on my luxury car
