Default Nakamichi head unit wiring

Aloha fellow owners!

Getting ready to install an Alpine head unit. Can someone please tell me which wires to tap into? I've been searching but can't find information. I have a '98 GS300 with the factory Nakamichi system. I just need to know what the factory power, ground & acc. wire colors are on the wiring harnesses.

Mahalo for your help!

This should be pretty close. but you will want to verify with a multimeter. Let me know if you need help with this...I just recently put a Clarion in my 99 GS400 and had no issues.

Just one question...would ACC (blue) connect to switched 12V+ (gray)?

That grey wire tells the hu to turn on when you turn the car on, most if not all hu's I've seen used have useda red wire for that but I want to say it's labeled ACC, I guess that's not much help! It's been a while since I've done an install. I'm probably gonna be hooking up my hu later tonight I'll post back here with any insight if I do.

I'll only be using the constant and switched power wires as well, it looks like they're on the orange plug behind the nak radio. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! I'll test before I do anything but it'd be nice to know ahead of time.

On a side note, does anyone feel there's a benefit to running a power wire directly from the battery to the hu? I've done this with 12 gauge my last couple cars but I'm getting lazier with age and thinking it's probably a waste of effort, especially if you're not using the hu's internal amp.

There is 2 plugs in the back of the radio. I believe one is a 16 wire and one is an 8. You will deal only with the larger one. Yes...the ACC is your accessories wire basically when you turn the key only far enough for the radio to come on. you constant will be for the clock and should have inline fuses...those are going to be to the constant...i hope i didn't muddy the waters any....what is your model number on the apline...i can see if there is an installation guide online and go from there. Cheers!

I've never used the power from the head unit to drive speakers and didn't see a need to run a power wire to the battery. I wonder if it makes a difference?

Looking at the owners manual it says the yellow is your batt....so that is your constant which is the blue/yellow...the ignition is your red which will go to the gray. now before you hook it in you need to put a meter up to it ensure that is what you have.
If i under stand what you are saying about driving your speakers you will run your rca cables to the back amp and then from the amp to the speakers....when i hook up my hu i only use the batt, constant remote and ground....i don't mess w/ any other wires...

hope that all helps.

I did some multimeter testing earlier and the blue/yellow wire was constant and grey wire was switched like stated above. Both of these were on the orange plug from the back of the Nak HU. Didn't test everything because I didn't have the proper tool to ground the thing on the bolt I wanted and USPS didn't deliver my dash kit today, should get it worked out for sure in a day or two.

jcastaneda, welcome to CL and thanks for helping out!

Awesome! For the ground I believe if you are looking at the plug at the position it is suppose to insert into the hu, the ground is on the right side; it is grey/black. I located where it actually grounds to the chassis which is on the right side of where the head unit is just a little lower, near where the center console and the lower dash meet.
