Default OEM Material.

Hey guys, Idk if there is already a thread on this, I cant find it and i apologize if there is a thread on this. I was wondering, what material is used for our OEM side mirrors. I know our bumpers are PolyU. But what about the side mirrors? I was going to do a DIY LED Turn signal mirrors for 01+ GS, Just wondering what kind of material im dealing with before cutting the OEM >.< I dont want it to just break and crack all over the place lol. Sacrifices! >.<!! Thanks.

I'm certain the top half is made from ABS plastic.

I am pretty sure also that it is ABS plastic. I don't think it's flexible enough to be polyurethane like our bumpers. Just FYI, you can also buy LED side mirrors that just replace the whole unit. You have to swap the mirrors over to the new unit and wire up for the power motors, etc. I've seen this one and it looks clean!! There is a vendor is the classifieds that is selling them at the moment. Actually, forgot you had an '01+ and those ones are only for 98-00 since the '01+ mirrors are slightly different.

The outer casing is made of ABS Plastic. It's not easy working on it without causing unwanted damage. Most of the LED kits I've seen contain the backing with pre-moulded areas for the LEDs (including the kit from TOM'S).

so ur saying, i can swap 98-00 LED mirrors with the 01+? Wouldn't it be a fitment issue?

u can swap the 98-2000 mirrors to the 2001+ but u cannot swap the outer led casing from the 1998-2000 LED ones to the oem 2001+ units.

we covered this when we were trying to get 2 vendors nigel and david to make us some for the 2001+ they got some made for the 98-2000 units but not ours

this is how both them came about thanks to micheal

both these are davids

nigels

so i reiterate yes u can swap to the OEM 1998-2000 mirrors and then get the led casing and put it on there but for some reason they wont work on the oem 2001+ units (only reason i asked was i was gonna do this when we got tied into this post but decided not to after not being able to source the oem 1998-2000 mirrors for a decent price then)
