Default GS400 5-6 speed?

Has anyone ever seen a GS400 5-6 speed? do they exist or has anyone ever tried a conversion? very curious, GS400 would be a hell of a ride..

Rob

Meh, not worth it IMO.

Check this out. Been driving my GS all highway for the most part. Did a gas mileage check today....30.25 MPG. Haha, out of a V8. I get 20 with mixed city and highway, but primarily all highway was over 30. Amazing. I don't need a 6 speed. And I don't drive like a grandma either.

The main advantage of a 6-7-8-9-10 speeds would be this...

Let's say you want more low end grunt since the GS blows ***** from a dig.

Swap in a new differential (if necessary) with say some 4.30 gears. You will accelerate very quickly and since we only have a 5 speed, in 5th gear with those low gears (4.30's) you might be screaming at 5000 rpms. Boo on that. So with a 6th gear, you could come out of the hole quickly and still cruise in 6th gear at 1500-2000 rpms. This is all hypothetical as I have no idea of the exact rpm's, but you get the idea.

Or hell, let's say you drive how old people screw. Slow. That 6th gear would allow you to get maximum mileage per gallon if that was your objective.

5-6 speed different driving experience, more sportier perhaps.. automatic gets boring after a while.

Crap, sorry. I misread your post. I was thinking you meant a 5 sped to 6 speed automatic conversion.

I see now, you mean has anyone ever put a manual transmission either a 5 or 6 speed in a GS?

Yes. Some have on here. I bet the GS is a blast to drive rowing the gears yourself. But I suspect if it were cheap enough and anyone could do it easily, I bet we'd see more threads like this...

"Broke a half shaft. Again."

Alright, 5 or 6 speed is what i meant, sorry if you misunderstood. I mean come on, 98-03 m5's have 6 speeds why cant we, right? with a couple of more mods, perhaps 50 horses extra, little suspension work, id be happy... wouldn't you? car would be a blast to drive. I can just imagine myself driving thru the Vermont mountains, cops out there are about 150 yrs old.

If the car handled like a sports car, I could see overlooking the fact that it doesn't look like a sports car and putting one in for the bargain price of a *****ton of money.

It would be fun for awhile, but I can think of a better way to spend my time/money on this car. Who was it that put the manual in his GS300 recently, TTTurboPimp (sp?)?
