I smell gas
I am getting a gas smell in the car while driving. I have smelled around under the hood but it doesn't seem to be coming from there. It actually seems to come from underneath the car and is stronger on the passenger side (I think). Anyone ever had this come up? Any ideas? Taking her to a mechanic tomorrow but would like some input from the club (especially anyone with experience).

What exactly does the charcoal canister do?
Is it located left, cent or right side of the car? Mine is at Goddyear now being looked at. I'd like to point them in the right direction.
I here a vacuum noise coming from under the hood like something is trying to pressurize from time to time especially at start up. Could this be due to the charcoal canister? I searched and found some info on different parts that could go bad. Any help will be appreciated.

this canister is located under car. it is supposed to absorb the fuel smell from the tank. sometimes it gets full & saturated with fuel causing it smell.
this usually comes from owners overfilling their cars.
the smell may be travelling from the rear to the front

At first I thought it was a fuel line as I smelled gas coming from under the car when I would get out, but I couldn't find any leaks. I did some research on here and found out it was more then likely the charcoal filter (which isn't cheap to replace) and left it at that. After a couple of weeks the smell went away.

it has always taken a while for the light to come back on after cleared.
it could be a day sometimes same day.
I am currently not driving it anymore until i get this and some other things resolved first.

Figured it ou!t
Took the day off and went to the mechanic. We dropped the tank and found a hole from a screw. The screw was used to mount the router for the TV's the previous owner installed. I was looking into why they were not working a couple of weeks ago and must have disturbed the screw. Thats about the time I got the fuel smell and the mpg went downhill. We sealed it up with some JB weld. Since I got a better deal than I expected because I stayed with him all day, I'm having him install the lower ball joints and tie rods.
Today was a good day!
