here is the car after the roof painted and that molding without the white paint on it. It was actually a tape placed on the molding and was painted white. I was surprised toyota did something like this.
If it wasn't for the tape that was on this piece, i would have never guessed it looked this nice.
thats soo crazy. i just found that out today on my 3gs. but its actually painted on the 3gs. i accidentally got some aircraft remover on it and noticed metal underneath. began sanding away followed by some polish and that thing is like a mirror.
for all you 2gs guys that wana do this your self just remove the vynl tape, mask off both sides of the molding to protect the roof, widows, and pillar, get some 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 grit. all wet. followed by some meguires all metal polish. wallmart has it. eagle one never dull and all that other crap is crap. mothers is barely decent. meguires is where its at. ALL metal polish is the name. for your chrome/polished lips on your wheels... mm mmm.. stuff is amazing. trust.
hmm.. i put take on it and waited and peeled it of.. the paint was still there =(. should i use paint remover from kragens? or aircraft remover? that safe?
whatever you do, don't use any kind of paint remover. the painted part of this trim is painted to vinyl tape. If you start by peeling the tape, you will see what's underneath. I would start in the corner, that way if you change your mind, it's not too late to stop.
Does anyone know how to remove that piece safely without breaking it? Im trying to take off that vinyl tape since its peeling, but its still stuck under the black rubber piece in some other places so its hard to pull out.
