After installing the timing belt and its components, did you rotate the crank, by hand, 2 complete revolutions and verified timing before you buttoned it back up?


Take the timing cover off and verify your timing marks...

My bet is that you are off a few teeth, I hope not too many or you will have bent your valves.

Have you done a timing job on a car with VVTi before? The intake camshaft can vary by up to 60'degrees with the VVTi cam pulley. It needs to be all the way clockwise first, and then set the timing from that point.

Redo the timing belt. Sounds like it's off a couple tooths
