Lexus Mobile Phone
Does anyone have this accessory in their GS?
It's one of the few things I have ever found salespeople try and discourage me from getting, and it was universal. I kind of wanted one because I figured it would integrate well into the navigation control panel, plus the GS brochure and website make it sound like it has hands-free operation built-in.
I know it's expensive, but does anyone have direct experience with using one?

I wouldnt get it, The phone is old and outdated, its not portable so you cant take it with you when you leave the car, and it just takes up too much space. your better off buying your own cell phone and choosing your own provider instead of having a limited choice. I used to have one on my BMW and I never really used it, it was just too much off a hassel

Well you're right that in the past it was just like that. When I bought my Acura four years ago the OEM phone was analog, for crying out loud. The Lexus website, though, specifically states that "...despite its integrated nature, this compact handset design can operate as a stand-alone mobile phone for use away from your car." It describes the downloadable ring tones and web browsing features of the phone, which means it's more sophisticated than the bare-bones Nokia I have now. I think service is only offered through MCI, but I wouldn't mind switching since it seems like everybody has pretty much the same nationwide plans these days.

The phone is a dual-mode phone made by Motorola. It has a cradle installed in the center console, which can be removed and take along. It is compatible with the factory audio and navigation system. It is also voice command compatible with the LS400 / LS 430. Let me know if you would like additional information.

ARIST, any word on problems with the phone??
I had the old Lexus/Motorola Portable Plus system in my previous Lex and was pretty satisfied with it way back when. Considered the new phone for my GS because of the integration but was less than impressed with the price (installation must be godawful) plus the phones HAD to remain with Sprint as carrier. Subsequently heard rumors of difficulties, but it wasn't clear if it was phone system or carrier. What gives??
