what is VSV?

from my research, the sport designs came in 2001 to 03.
Vacuum switching valve, there are two in the engine bay that should be changed at 90k. I like to do this to avoid, codes p0440/441/446 as I mentioned in another thread. Sometimes it could be mistaken for a bad gas cap. All in all, cover your rear, gas caps and these two valves...

Hey guys. So I've jumped further into the Lexus world. Left behind my 93 SC400 & 97 Civic (still have both) and dipped into the 2GS world.

It is a 2002 GS430 with roughly 99xxxkms/61516miles. Loaded except the NAV. Gonna do a bit of body work including some shaving of the rear fender. Prepping for the suspension and wheels. Don't think I'll get into the whole engine mods thing.............yet - got my Civic if I have some need for speed.

I've been lurking on this site for the longest time because of my ever-continuing search for a clean GS here in Vancouver. I have found one finally! A graphite grey pearl sport design edition with black interior. The mileage is roughly 17xxxxkms. I'm getting the owner to fix it before I purchase it.

Right now, the problems are:
1) water pump leak
2) transmission seal leak
3) ciggy lighter busted
4) brakes
5) fluids

I'm also asking the following to be replaced:
1) bushings
2) front ball joints

Is there anything else I should think about replacing? I've read through the threads, DIY and searches - which showed the bushing and ball joints as the most prevalent problems in 2GS.

Thanks for reading.

BTW, I am coming from the Honda world. My daily driver is a supercharged 4dr civic and weekender is a 93 SC400.
WHOA that's a lot of major problems for a 17k km

yah. i passed on that car. it was kinda hard becuz it was mint (except the motor/tranny probs) and a rare car here.

the one i picked up has no motor/tranny issues. the body needs a bit of work though. damn chips.

Nice pickup, OP! That GS430 will treat ya right. I'm glad to hear you passed on the SD. As everyone else said, wasn't any reason for that car to have so many issues with so few miles except abuse/neglect. Welcome to the 2GS scene
