Default a/c problem on 99' GS300

I have a 99' GS300 and last summer my car started to make a loud knocking noise when driving slow or at a stop when I had the A/C on only. Took it to a local garage that I had used to change the timing belt and they said I need to replace the condenser and compressor at the tune of $2100, wanted a second opinion so took to Lexus dealership and was told I need to have the a/c compressor, dryer and magnetic clutch assembly replaced all for $2027. The a/c does get cool, wouldn't say as good as before and sometimes when it is really hot and humid it blows warm air. Any suggestions on which way I should go or any other thoughts on this problem?

did you at least check to see that it might be as simple as refilling the freon?

The dealership checked that, it's definitely the compressor, but thank you for your reply

sux when it comes to A/C you can take your car to 10 different shops and get 10 diffrent quotes, best thing to do is find an honest trust worthy shop

Check ebay for the parts and have it fixed at a local shop that you trust, where you will only pay labor. Or check your local parts stores. Most will I believe give you a core charge for your old stuff. A/C is not that hard to do. I’d much rather tackle that as opposed to a timing belt.
