Finally Got a GS400
I have sat and read alot of posts to this board about the GS400 and finally decided that the Lexus would be a more reliable car than a used BMW 740i. Well last Thursday I bought a '98 silver GS400 w/Nav & 17" wheels. I searched for months all over the net and area dealer lots to find that special car with the nav & 17's that wasn't priced at retail or above. Thanks to you guys and your info I have already chromed the grill and it turned out great! Down the road I may ad a spoiler and some suspension mods , but am pretty sastisfied with the car as she sits. What a blast to drive and I really like to travel the highways again.

I paid 25,800 and the car had HIDs with new rubber. 57k miles with all services up to date. The seller had for 1 year and he bought it CPO from local Lexus dealer. Car has no flaws except small number of rock chips on front bumper.

Since I've been thinking of selling my 2000 GS400 with only 7k miles because I hardly use it (garaged and used on weekend trips and sunny days only--never seen snow) and the fact that you guys have been talking about used car prices, what is a fair price to ask for my car? The original sticker was around $55,000. It is the limited platinum edition with special wheels, white body with black pearl badging, Nakamichi, e-shift, special emblems and mats, spoiler, ..... with all options except no NAV and standard size wheels. I was told by the Lexus dealer that there were very few of the limited platinum edition GS400 around and they also said 2000 was the last year Lexus offered the e-shift on the V8 engine. Any idea on what I should ask for? Thanks.

I would go to Kelley Blue Book website and run your car's values there. KBB is what the dealers will offer you on your car since it normally has the lower trade in price. They will try to sell retail by the NADA retail prices. Kelley also shows Private party prices and retail pricing. Your motivation level to sell will probably dictate where you price your car. It is always easier to lower your price rather than to raise it and of course the more attractive you price your car the more attention it will receive.

Thanks guys! I thought I did OK on the car purchase as well. I actually let 2 other good deals get by me because of my procrastination and others closed on them before I was ready to do the same.
I know that the mod fever bites hard and I chromed the grill within 2 days of the purchase. I have cleaned the heck out of the car, from under the hood too the trunk and all points in between. I am glad I cannot roll the car over, because I would probably be cleaning the under carriage as well. One way to keep from buying parts for a little while. We will see how I end up doing.
