is it easy or complicated to put a non vvti engine and/or a transmission from say a 92-96 lexus sc400/ls400 ? SKIP the rambling if you want but here it goes....
The reason for the question is im now a new owner of a high mileage ex commuter gs400.After doing the math with pink slips and the area the previous owners lived in (rural) most of the 191,000 miles are apparently freeway miles. Theres no documentation of a timing belt change, ball joints,etc..(most of the things to look out for when buying a high mileage lexus) and so..Im just trying to see what im up against as I plan on doing the 100k mileage maintenance like timing and suspension stuff.but considering all of this has not been proven to have been done per scheduled maintenance my mechanic thinks the car will run another 100k+ miles once i do the maintenance.O it runs pretty good feels more like 90k miles than 191,xxx miles..but im skeptical its my first toyota/lexus and sorry for the ramble i only spent 5k flat on it today clean title im now the third owner...just trying to determine worst scenario at this time..i love the car alot just dont want to spend extra in the future for a transmission or engine if i can use older model replacements because the cost is like night and day between non vvti and vvti
so will a non vvti engine and 92-97 sc400/ls400 transmission run ok in my 99 gs400.

Congratulations on you new purchase...
Your mechanic is right.
Do the timing belt and water pump.
Fix any suspension issues.
Take care of oil leaks that may or may not develop.
Check and maybe replace the spark plugs and stop thinking about replacing the motor.
...and maybe in 10 years the 1UZ-fe VVT-i motors will be dirt cheap and even then you still might not need one. I have head a few mechanics and machinist mention that our motors are, "million mile motors". I say sure why not, there are plenty of 1uz motors out there with over 300k miles and still running strong.
