Default Value of a Gs400 98 with 170k miles?

Hi I'm looking at getting a gs400 for around 4-8k depending on condition, and so far I've seen more or less only cars over 8k that are any good, the rest suffer from high mileage.

For instance theres a silver/tan lexus gs400 with 168k miles for 5.8k. Is that a reasonable cost? While I prefer the black interior. I'm just wondering what I good price for a car with that mileage is? It's had all it's routine maintainence.

Thanks

Note. Anyone is socal with a good black interior gs400 or gs4xx? Thanks

At 170k, I would guess you'll need suspension and maybe tranny work over the next 30-50k miles. Price that in

It has a new strut/shock assembly it seems. So that shouldn't be an issue, the trans will be on the other hand. Do they usually give out at 200k or so?

Edmunds says 4.5k or so for a car at that mileage, but I doubt i'll find one at that price Are black interior ones that much more costly from what you've seen?

GS's with black interior by no means are rare. There should be no reason anyone would pay more for one with black interior over gray or tan. Good luck with your search!

So considering the brakes, rotors, control arms, shocks, struts, and 90k maintainence was done on the car. It has a bump on the drivers door from someone opening the door on it, and some scratches on the back left bumper. What would you guys consider it being worth? 4k? 5k? Need an honest opinion as i'm heading out to see it tonight.

Thanks for all the help.

Thanks

I think it's worth 4k, 5k if you love it. At this mileage, you have to being willing to drive it until it falls apart on you to amortize any serious repairs.

Try to get a read on the guy selling. Does he seem like he loved the car, does he know about the upkeep, does he have service records, etc.

Might be worth getting a prepurchase inspection if you like what you see tonight.

Also from experience a black/black car is a pain to take care of. GL

Yeah, I agree so far with what is being said, most importantly though, get a carfax done... Its worth it. And look around I am sure you would find what you are looking for and within your price range... Keep in mind, nothing cheap lasts long or is good...
