Default Smog testing

Anyone know if you are able to pass the OBDII smog scan test with no cats and O2 Sims?

nope. Theres a visual test as well. Whether or not it passes emissions if they see no cats, they will fail you. Thats California for ya... I couldnt pass smog with my charger cause it had no carb stickers, but it passed the emissions test.

Yea, I used to live in CA where it was a PITA for smog. But up here in WA they just hook up a OBD II scanner and pass/fail you that way. If you use an O2 sim that fools the ECU to thinking that the two deleted cats are working than it should pass right?

LOL, they won't pass you even if you have zero emission (better oem). The Cali **** got our *****. Test sites can only use **** approved tester, even if you can prove the equipment is the same or better.

I smogged a subaru with 02 simulator and it passed the functional check but failed for the emissions because of no cats. So you would have to find a guy that would be willing to do illegal for you. GL.

You guys in Ca are smog testing thru the tailpipe right or is it the new way of hooking up to your OBDII? Because us here in Wa we can use this now http://www.emissiontestwa.com/Kiosk/WhatISKiosk.aspx

What does your emission testing consist of? Do they hook up to your tailpipe or hook up to your OBDII?

I'll would love to get stationed in CA but those Smog laws are killer. When I lived there, there were Smog check points, get pulled over for anything other than stock, fix it tickets, go to the referee and court. It was ridiculous

Yup sucks here They have a new machine out now that is soon to be required (I have a friend in the smog business) It will now read the vin number through the OBDII on all cars after 2003 iirc. So cant cheat that way anymore. People used to scan the bar code on the DMV papers then run a different car to pass smog... cant do that anymore.

The state is not requiring smog stations to get new smog machine because of financial issue. What they do now is update the software from the current smog machine that's it. I still have the old smog machine (SPX) update it. Now I can retrieve VIN numbers on certain vehicles. Currently not many smog machine can read Controlled Area Network (CAN) vehicles. The smog station would need to pay additional fee to be able to read C.A.N. vehicles later on as soon as they make the software.
