I know Lexus makes a reliable V8 but if I was going to get an E39 (minus the M5)...I'd get a 530i...vs the 540i....The I6 is much more reliable than their V8 of that generation as well

What year did they start putting side airbags into the GS's? And what is so unreliable about 98',99' GS400's???

They're reliable, its just the 98-00 GS's have weaker master ABS Cylinders, and the newer GS's have more sturdy lower control arms and some other suspension components. They've always had side airbags,

I don't think 98-00 GSs had side airbags...could be wrong, though.

Couldn't most of this info be found between Autotrader and two test drives?

My 99 has side airbags on the seats..its the window curtain airbags that the 01+'s have

Yep, that's the difference between the 98-00 and 01+ side airbags
