I thought I had read that they were different. I think you have to splice wires to make it work.

I'm still not sure if they're interchangable. I assume they're not as this guys says the radio he's seling will only work in a 01+ model.

I donno, I assume the factory radio is pioneer. I guess the answer to your question is yes, not the factory upgrade model (the 'N' something radio).
Not sure about the quality being great because mine doesn't show anything now on the LCD display, although it still plays fine. Disappointing for a luxury car.

I like the sound quality of my stock pioneer. I think it's good enough, but I'm not a music freak.

Anybody have any specifics to this topic? I really am in need of another stock radio, however I don't want to buy the wrong radio...something that will not log in and work with my year GS.

Ok, my radio has pretty much taken a dump at this point. I can only get cd's to play so I am in need of a radio now. Is there no converter that will make the 01+ stock radios work in a 99?

Hmm that's not good. Are you sure about this 1UZ? I just ordered an ML (Levinson) radio out of an 04 GS to replace my blown-LCD Pioneer for my 02 GS and everywhere I looked/asked the plugs match and it should work. According to sources if the faceplate ID is P1718 or P1740 (my 02 is 1718) they are interchangeable.
The ML amp isn't there and spkrs are of course not the same but the output still matches 1-1. I bought it because it was the only one in "mint" condition. I hope I didn't toss $300 down the drain on ebay!

I would've taken the Pioneer like mine, sure, but I searched for months and this is the only one that popped up in near new condition (or so they claim). It's a double din, exact inputs as mine. And I'm not spending $975 at the dealer, not in this lifetime..

Talking 01-05 ML and Pioneer headunits interchangeable!

I received my ML headunit from fleabay today.. this is confirmation **ML and Pioneer headunits for 01-05 ARE in fact interchangeable!**
The double-din plugs match and the whole unit plugs n plays! And, maybe I'm hearing things but I swear the sound output is much improved over my old Pioneer.

Happy camper here knowing my money was well spent and hope I answer somebody's question with this upgrade!

You have a mark levinson headunit which Im actually surprised works, and it will have better sound, but you dont have the ML audio system though. Meaning the speakers. All the speakers you have are made for the pioneer HU

ML has different speakers.
