Am I Missing Something Here
There are 3 stickers on the driver side. A yellow, white, and a black one. The white tells you "Made in Japan" and underneath is a No. What does that number indicate?

According to the last four digits of my 2000 RX, 0080378 or something close to that, mine is the 80,000+ number'd RX. It's true, the RX is the highest selling Lexus.
I think I would rather have a higher production number. The more they make the more problems are fixed or improvements made. I bought mine late in 2000, so it stands to reason that it is a later number for the model year.

Umm no, GS300s were introduced in 1993, therefore six years later, there are 50,792 GS300s before you.
Same with the GS400 which is a different car with a different engine and driveline, thus a different VIN. They were introduced in 1997, thus bit's 2000 has 20,000-some predecessors.
And the GS430 is yet another car with an all new VIN, which is why GS430 GUY's 2001 is number 6,955.
Every number and every letter in the VIN has a significance. They tell you what chassis, which plant it was produced in and when, which motor and transmission it's using, even tells you if your particular vehicle has traction control or not.

In that case, here's a '99 SC400 on ebay, check the VIN... Production number 1,002,057. Average out the years and the SC400 still has higher volume production per year. 80k/3 vs 1000k/7 .

Hold on, you might be onto something there. My VIN is 47,000-something. The '96 SC400 is ~51,000, then in 1997 they all jump to 1,000,000-something all of a sudden. I think after the huge makeover in 1997, the SC400s started over at 000,000---and the seventh digit really has nothing to do with production numbers at all. After all, who makes 1 million production cars of the exact same chassis and drivetrain? The "1" probably indicates the change to a 5-speed ECT-i tranny or the addition of VVT-i. So you may still be right after all .

Hmmm...
So our GS (Made in Sept. 2001) shows 154,589.
My ES (Made in Jul. 1989) shows 93,450.
The GS number looks accurate, the ES number is not anywhere near right. They probably started making ES250's in July of '89 so there is no way they could make over 93K of them. Maybe they were counting V6 Camrys and the ES250 as one, but even then the number still seems high...
I think the number on the sticker on the door might be the sequence number for that particular model year...Maybe...
The ES250's is 669.
The GS300's is 557.
That's a difference of 112, which just happens to be our house number. Coincidence? I think not.
