Thumbs up Did Some Minor Changes To My GS

Hey guys just thought i would share my news with you all!

I did some minor change to the hood of the car, i took the insulator out of the hood to let the engine cool faster then stock. It was there in the first place as a method to keep the engine quieter but since i went ahead and changed the exhaust and intake i really kinda screwd up the whole "lexus = quiet" idea.. so i thought i would take the FIBERGLASS insulated mat out of the hood, ya now im all itchy on my hands! damn fibreglass. Anyways the car sounds slightly different - nicer - then it did before and im really happy with it, it gives more noise from the engine / intake too balance out the noise from the exhaust! this mod would probobly only for people who want to make their car slightly louder (i mean SLIGHTLY, its not like my car sounds like a rice rocket or anything).

The next thing i changed is i went ahead and picked up some PIAA wiper blades. They are the new silicone ones with alchoal swabs (or they smell like it) you put on your windshield, the idea is to make the water bead up a lot so the wiper can cleanly wipe it off with ease! Its amazing how well it works, as we were washing the car we tested it and it beads up like i've never seen before, and then the wipers wipe it right off really well.. my old blades streaked terribly, it would make it worse than leaving the rain on! Well anyways check into these blades if ur thinking of replacing them. They are pricy but IMO worth it.

Just thought i would share that stuff with you considering im really bored hehe

you should prolly have left that insulation up there on the hood. it is not there to deaden the sound but to keep some of the heat off of your hood. excessive heat and paint are not a good mix. if i were you i would seriously consider putting it back

ya i was worried about that too, my friend has had his off for a long time now and there has been no trouble. Infact, most cars dont have the insulator and i belive it is just for sound level purposes.

I thought the hood insulation is also a sort of fire blanket.

sorry guys i gotta disagree with ya..

it was 85 degrees today driving around the car has no problems! no aftermarket hoods have the insulator, and most facotry cars dont, so i hightly doubt its a problem

I think you should consider a couple of other matters.

1. Wait till some bird decides to poop on your hood. Being hotter will certainly allow it's debri to etch it's way into your paint.

2. Modern day engines are more efficient (performance & fuel comsumption) at higher temperatures. That why coolant thermostats are set at relatively high temperatures. In the old days people used to take thermostats out thinking there would be a performance improvement running colder. Granted the insulation won't dramatically change the motor's design parameters but it might effect the rate of temperature change in a heat up or down mode.

I'd suggest putting it back on.

thanks for all your advice, but i have decided to leave it off. There are too many variables to what you guys are saying for it to make any sence. No offence meant. I will keep my reasons to myself and im sorry for ever posting about it
