gs400 nakamichi amplifier?
i bought a 1998 gs400. overall an amazing purchase. everything about the car is awsome. including the sounds system.
i've noticed there is an amp in the trunk. i wanted to put either a 12" or a 10" subwoofer in the trunk.
would the stock amplifier in the car be able to power a 12" or a 10" sub?
or would i have to buy another amplifier?
thanks for your input

I have the same Nakamichi setup as you and the answer is No-Way! The factory Nak amp pushes ~40w rms, not nearly enough to drive an aftermarket sub.
Basically, I would start by adding a decent, inexpensive MTX sub amp, say maybe around 150w with a bass boost circuit and see how you like the way the factory Nak sub sounds. These MTX amps are relatively cheap as they don't have very clean (Sig to Noise) output. Really isn't that critical as this will be producing bass not midrange or vocals/instruments etc..
I actually have the 10" Nak sub running off of a PPI PC450 bridged off the back 2 channels. This would be normally pushing a true 200w@4 ohms bridged but it is getting slightly less as the Nak sub is only 6ohms. This adjusts it down to roughly ~175w that the sub is drawing, however it handles it quite well and really makes the sub work, along with the 12db gain at 40hz that the amp also provides.
