Default Bestway to strip rattle can job on rims?

Interested in a set of rims, just trying to figure out the best way to strip a rattle can job of the face of the wheel. I'm thinking of using the citistrip (citrus paint stripper) that people use for diy chrome grill. What do you guys think.

What surface is the rim underneath? Is it chrome or alloy?

^ That's really going to be the easiest route, but not so much of a DIY project.

Are you planning on repainting them or having them powder coated after? If you are planning on powdercoating them, a reputable shop will strip it all off for you.

I don't live in the US, but I paid $25 per wheel for sandblasting and another $30 per wheel for powdercoating. I figure prices should be somewhat the same in the US.

I think aircraft stripper (spray can) is the best. You can buy it from autozone for like $10 and you just spray and let it sit then rinse it. Doesn't get any easier. I used it on my grill and my wheels.

Nope, way different prices in my area, about 80-90 to powder coat a wheel.

Ouch, that's a lot of money.

You can strip the paint with a paint remover. But the good thing about sandblasting is that it takes away small curb damage and such. So when you get them repainted, they'll be like new.

I don't know the exact process for wheels, but for metal i would strip it, primer, wet sand with 800 grit, then 1000, then 1500, then spray you wheels evenly, then clear.

I think 800 grit as more than enough for wheels. You're not really gonna notice the difference, especially after the clear coats.
