Question can side air bags be retrofitted on GS400?

my guess is no, but it doesn't hurt to ask!

i wish we had waited for the 2000 GS but my wife wanted to jump on the 1999. can't blame her, it is a great car. but no side air bags.

thanks!

you mean the curtain ones? all gs has front and side airbags, but 2000 up they have the curtain ones (to protect your head as well). well with money you can do anything, but trust me you'd better of just get a 2000 model rather than trying to put it in

I believe side curtain airbags never came in the GS 400, only the GS 430, which began production in 2001.

I'd agree with pusher - you'll be better selling/trading if you want to add that mod. I've got to imagine there are some additional sensors and logic to set of those bags, not to mention the plumbing/wiring for them that wouldn't be pre-run in the older cars.

By the way, welcome to ClubLexus? What part of NC are you in? I (and a couple of other guys on here) am in Charlotte.

thanks for the replies, and the welcome.

i'm in asheville, nc. i'm kind of a surrogate lexus fan as the GS400 is my wife's and she drives it about 90% of the time. but i just sold my miata and who knows what the replacement will be -- if not another ragtop, maybe another lexus?
