Question 164k miles and going downhill...

I have a 98 GS 400 who is slowing needing more attention. We are beyond due for timing belt, water pump etc. I have never done anything more than change the brakes, rotors, tires on this car since I bought it. I had a new surp belt put on in Feb/Mar 2008.

My plan is to get it all done at once myself. Timing belt, water pump, transmission flush, new air filter, new spark plugs. However, what else should I be replacing while I have the car gutted?

Thanks in advance!

Air filter, Cabin Filter, PCV valve, Timing belt tensioner...cams etc... If I were you I would repeat the 90k maintenance... run a search on here and you will see what I am referring to...

if this is your first time doing any timing belt / h2o pump job, expect a 10-15 hour work time. I'm not being optimistic here either.

Oh and everyone named everything except for the front crankshaft oil seal. That's the one thing you need to replace right after the timing belt and the idler pulleys.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but you might want to check out your valve cover gaskets as well. I know on my SC400 they had a good amount of seepage at 152k. Motor mounts front and rear might not be a bad idea to replace either.

If you really want to get into it ball joints, control arm bushings, caster bushings, steering rack bushings and we could go on an on with parts that wear out over time.
