First of all, I want to thank Brian (sakataj) for all his help and information on the navigation receiver upgrade. I replaced my bad navigation receiver with one from 2006 RX400h (Gen 4). While at it, I replaced my audio only iPod/iPhone integration kit (Vais Tech SLi)with one that can do both audio and video (SL2Vi). According to Vais Tech, 2001 GS is not on the compatible list but we gave it a shot. Here is the result:

Sound quality is great (even tho its the first gen ML) and picture quality is not bad. The audio control is through the touch screen just like other iPod integration kit but the video control is from the iPod/iPhone. I also have the same motion set up like Brian and my son loves to watch his Diego and Dora in the back seat when I take him around town. BTW, all parts are plug and play. As a kicker, I also use this to integrate the iPhone for streaming live radio from Taiwan.

I know I have been a procrastinator... heehee...
iPod/iPhone Integration: Vais Tech: SL2Vi (Don't know which package)
You guys can email: sales@prestigiousdetailing.com for more information. They are authorized dealer for Vais with attractive price and they are the one who did the installation for me also.
Hope this helps.

If the navigation maps actually worked for me for the Gen3/4, I probably would have left the stock NAV screen in and did something like this. Reason being is it would have just been easier. I definitely like my Alpine that can do iPod video as well, plus it works perfectly with my rear Alpine headrest monitors, but I'm not that hardcore into A/V as I once was, so as long as it works its good enough for me, and if the stock NAV screen could accomplish that it would have been good.
