My bet would be GS500. They need to stay competitive w/ MB E500. The GS500 with about 330 hp, just enough to kick the new 54X *** once for all!!!

'Much better' is relative I guess. I got about 17-18 city until I put in my TC, now it's 16-17. And I can defined as a 'lead foot'.

18 to 19 for purely around town and 24-25 for purely highway. No engine mods other than K&N.

I like the gs. But if the car is only selling 270 to 300 a month. Something is wrong. I feel lexus should make more commercials/promote or something. I really didn't see a reason to upgrade the gs to a 430 from my unstanding the car doesn't outperfrom the 400 series.

i don't see the sales of 540 and e430 anything more than that figure as well. it's not about marketing, it's what you want. not a lot of people really truly appreciate the power of v8 and understand the price difference

Besides, whatever upgrade was involved in going to 430 wasn't done for the GS. Just standardization.

Agree. The dealers I talked to say that the demand for a car like the GS with a V8 is a very specific demand and by a very specific audience. Most people looking at cars in the GS/5Series/EClass/A6 category are going to get the 6 cylnder becasue that's all they need/want.

But some of us, who were silly enough to get a V8, are doomed for life because WE JUST CAN'T GO BACK.

I have never heard it was .5 seconds slower. I think Lexus quotes it .1 seconds faster (5.8 vs. 5.9?) Or I might have it reversed.

It is slightly heavier but it also has more torque and a better torque/hp curve (comes on quicker due to the bigger engine).

I would think they would be a dead heat.
