Default Gas Gauge stuck on Empty and Light ON

My 1998 Lexus GS400 still runs fantastic but has recently encountered this issue. It has 130k miles and has never given me any major issues.

The other day I had 1/4 of a tank left so I decided to fill up the car. I usually do this with 1/4 of the tank left with the car OFF but the key in the ACC position. (listen to the radio)

This particular time when I attempted to start the car I noticed it struggled a little. It fired up but then instead of reading full it reads completely empty with the gas light on. It ALWAYS stays a this position and never moves.

The car starts up fine now and runs perfect. However, the gas gauge never moves from the empty position. I've attempted to use the search feature but many of the hits only mention inconsistant gas gauge readings.

A couple of questions. Is there a gas gauge fuse for a 98 GS400? Does it simply sound like a float or a connection issue to the sensor? If so, would this be a shop visit? I'm fairly mecanically inclined so if it just involves some troubleshooting without dropping the tank that would be great!

Thanks for all your help!

Have you ever had a fix for this problem? My car 2000 GS4 has gas gauge stucked at empty position for over 3 months now. It is too cold here for me to do any investigation. If you found a solution, please let me know. Thanks

It's either stuck floater/bad fuel sending unit. It will need to be changed to be fixed.

Is the floater near the fuel pump? Where is the sending unit?

Thanks for the info guys.
