yeah, i remember that too about the 2001 GS430 that i test drove. compared to my 98 GS400, in my cup holder, both the divider and the edge of the cupholder does NOT have any plastic / sponge type stuff attached. but in the 2001 i drove, they have that. it will 1) give more flexibilty to cup size and 2) help to grip the cup better.
damn i'd better do that too. now if i put a bottle of water there it's ridiculous. the slightest acceleration from stop will end up having the bottle in the pessenger floor....

You would think Lexus thought of putting a sunglass holder by the Homelink buttons, and move those either on the top of the cover or on the mirror... even a freaking RX has that if i'm not mistaken. And why not have on the GS the cupholders from the LS... the ones that you press and they just pop out?
Ok, i feel better now...

2000 Lexus LS400: Great car with awful CupHolders
I have a 2000 Lexus LS400. I am very pleased with the vehicle except for one item that is driving me #%@%$ crazy: The cupholders. They simply cannot hold most drinks. Hell, I cannot even place a water bottle in them.
When I first purchased the vehicle, they gave two LEXUS thermal cups. I thought, "Great!". Now I know why they gave them to me. Becuase the worthless cupholders wouldn't hold anything else.
I visited the parts department at Sewell Lexus in Dallas, TX to ask for replacement cupholders. I would pay for them myself. They didn't have any.
Any solutions?

well...i dunno if this helps....but i have an 01 GS3, and comparing my with the pic of dex's cupholders...the only thing that i see is that mine has this lil spongy rubber ring sorta thing on the insert part....but i dont really think it helps much....i still get drinks spilt all the freakin time....i juss took the insert out and use it as a storage compartment. Now i juss carry a bottle of water with one of those sports tops. If i really have to carry any drinks, i pull down that middle arm rest in the back seats and put the drinks there....those cup holders are a hella lot better than the ones in front in next to the shifter.

Cupholders?
Hey, I got one for you...are there cupholders in the back seat? I was reading the owner's manual and it mentions backseat cupholders. Just can't find it! 2k2 gs3 sport Ed
