Default Has anyone removed their factory Navigation unit and replaced it with a aftermarket?

I did some searching but haven't found someone who has done it just people who have asked. I would like to remove the stock navi and install a double din alpine unit i have.....but the stock navi has the controls for ac and heat built in. Can i just buy a separate oem unit from a non navi model and plug and play it in the location then mount my radio??
thanks

That link does not work. Could you please reattach? I saw a few asking the same question but no one posted a 100% answer that they had done it. Thanks in advance
