A/C Compressor (Where to buy from?)
I need help. My ac compressor crapped out on me a few weeks ago, and I can not handle it anymore in this Texas heat (heat index 106). I've looked on craiglist, and ebay, but I just couldn't pull the trigger without knowing condition of the part (prior issues, wrecked, sellers reviews, etc.) Can someone please recommend a trust worthy auto store online or seller? I'm looking for a remanned a/c compressor $500 or less. Any help would be great. I googled a/c compressor and browsed around discountacparts.com store has anyone dealt with them before? Thanks in advanced.

If you use your CL discount, you can get one from Sewell Lexus for about $500-510 shipped. Not sure if it's new or factory rebuilt, but it should be reliable.

There's a number of rebuild shops out there that simply rebuild old units. Some are good while only a small few are bad. I'm sure whatever you choice will be you'll be fine getting a new one.
And just as an added bit - you can't buy a NEW compressor any longer from Lexus - only re-manufactured ones are available.
Also, there's a difference between rebuilt and remanufactured. Rebuilt units have only the broken component replaced whereas a remanufactured unit will not only replace the broken component but other parts as well. So, in other words remanufactured units are better - by definition.

I contacted Lexus of Austin and they wanted $500+ for an a/c compressor w/o the clutch. I need the a/c compressor with the clutch. I will browse Sewell and Rebuilders. Thanks for the advice everyone.

I got mine from http://www.compressorsoftheworld.com/. It is a rebuilt unit and I paid $275.00 plus shipping. It has been running good for 2 months with no issues.

I have a rebuilt compressor for '01 and newer GS300 and IS300.. It is the same as the '98 to '00 model but there is a sensor in a different position..I mechanic would have to do a splice.
I paid $300 for it, but ended up using a used compressor so I don't need this one. It has about 7 months left on warranty if it quits ( no warranty on labor).
I'll let it go for $150 so that if it quits, it will counter the labor costs...
Im in Dallas TX, will ship for $10.
Heres an ad with pictures incase any of you '98,'99, '00 owners want to see the difference between it and your factory compressor,, note the sensor on top of the dirty one. In the second picture (picture of bottom side), you see the sensor is moved to the bottom of the new style compressor.
