Aftermarket Head Unit using 01+ GS430 steering wheel audio controls?
I know i saw it here somewhere, and so ive been searching all night.
Everyone has suggested using the the PAC SWI-PS. which wires do i connect? https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...rket-ddin.html
I know someone said its pretty simple to install, but ok, i suck with electronics!!!!
any help would be absolutely great! doing this with a bad back from the accident sucks royally!

ok, after countless searches, and no answers, and working with my audio installer, we found out why you cant get the stock steering wheel controls to work with an aftermarket deck.
credit goes to my installer, i should have seen him in the first place, he figured it out within 10mins.
pac systems, and all the other systems out there with interface modules dont seem to list the 98-05 gs. reason being is they havent tested their systems on it, or figured it out. whats their to figure out you ask?
at the back of the stock head unit, the factory unit, not the higher end mark levingston one, but the regular non navi one, there is a seperate plug, 2 wires. normal steering wheel controls would use these 2 wires, sending signals of different resistances or what nots to the deck for control. however, we found after using an volt/amp meter, no real signal was going thru. reason for this is, what is believed to be, the primitive canbus system, or early versions of it. so instead of a signal, its actually sending coding to the deck/head unit, instructions.
so with that being said, its just a matter of time asking companies like PAC to crack the code. they did it to bmw, and benz i believe, just gotta wait i guess.
but for now, no interface, at least known, unless anyone else has figured it out.

I find that really interesting. I added wheel controls to my Toyota Tundra, uses a standard resistance method. I used a Sequoia wheels/controls but used a AWSC module, supposed to be much easier to use than the PAC unit.

based on the information from the audio installer, neither pac nor axxess list anything for the GS 98-05.
we traced it down to the plug with the 2 wires, suspected that already, but no phyiscally signal was coming thru those 2 wires, not in the traditional sense for steer wheel controls.

thats why i started this thread, every other thread i searched had some info, and pointed in some direction, but no definitive fact that anyone got their steering wheel controls to work with an aftermarket head unit. tested and double tested, the steering wheel controls are working, but only when connected to stock deck.
when it comes to electronics, anything more than 2 wires is beyond my ability, so i leave it to the experts. i understand the concepts, but making them happen is another story.
for now, just keep hunting.

Maybe it's a option, open the GS430 remote control and find out if we can modify, like only use the switchs and after go to some module to convert that simple on/off signal to aftermarket stereo
