Default Strongest aftermarket lug nuts

After doing a search I found a thread where jeff encouraged a guy to pick up a set of McGard but a friend of mine said he has heard of people having problems with them. He has installed the kics lug nuts and had problems with them as well which are $200.

After my coilover calamity with Stance, and taking the wheels off and on a million times, I notice my aftermarket lug nuts keep getting cross threaded. I am tired of changing studs so I'm looking for a set which are stronger. I think i will go crazy if I put up $200 dollars and still have this problem. And yes I hand tighten the lug nuts first before tightening them.

I appreciate the info:

Cross threading does not automatically mean your lug nuts aren't up to the task. Are you just daily driving? No drifting or racing? If you are just driving, I can't see how lug nuts (assuming they are the correct thread/pitch) and you have the complimentary studs would fail. I know you said you are hand tightening, but is anyone using impact tools on your wheels?

I've taken off my McGard lugs time and time again for years. Never had a problem with them. Honestly, I'm not sure how you can cross thread a lug nut ever. If you hand tighten like you say you do, and use a simple torque wrench to properly torque (Not over torque) I would say it is near impossible to cross thread a lug nut.

cross threading is usually a sign of over tightening.

I've found that the McGard Spline drive to work perfectly on all of my cars. I use it for the past five years on my GS300 and supra and no problems at all.

I'll definitely look into them, thanks
They look nuts, what are the pros and cons with the open ended compared to the closed ended. Will the weather seep in there and ruin them eventiually?

I've had the Open ended Kics R40 for about 1.5 years. What would happen is that they would start cross threading, almost at the point where they were tight. I couldnt understand it as the stud was clean no sign of damaged threads. I eventually bought a tap and die set and every time I would run the die over the studs to make sure that they were clean and they always were. I would also use the tap to check the nuts and for some reason sometimes the threads were cross threaded, eventually the threading itself would strip out of the lug nut. I have 4 cross thread lug nuts and 2 nuts with the threading fully stripped out of them. Bear in mind I always install my lug nuts myself, torque with a torque wrench to 76 lbs. The kics were the worst investment I ever made, I was using them with ARP studs as well. So studs were definitely not the problem as I ended up using Autozone lugs nuts at the moment and they've been working fine for me. When I contacted Kics, they stated that they had no knowledge of a similar problem to mine. I asked them if I could purchase replacement nuts. they told me that they dont sell them separately, they informed me that I would have to purchase another set. I'm sorry but I just spend $180 on your product, which is crap and you are telling me that I need to spend another $180 in order to replace 6 nuts? I thought that it was ridiculous and I decided to take the loss and chuck the kics.

I've also used extended Work lug nuts in blue for a day and I thought that they looked nice, however cant tell you the quality but they are soft since putting a wrench on them twice managed to chip the finish, I can only imagine what they look like after a year of removing and mounting the wheels.
