If your going to do an audio system, you should do it right. Alot of those items you can get from online car stereo for much cheaper. In your price range I would go for alpine type r components, type r 10" sub, better box, and possibly alpine MRV amp if you can afford it. Our stock sound system is actually not bad, but putting in cheap components could end up not sounding as good as stock. Also wiring for amps isn't as cheap as it may seem. Good luck and I hope to see pics of your build.

new eclipse suck the old stuff was great. the alpines will fit i had some in there but its a tight fit. i replaced them with focal shallow 5.25.and in the rear i have focal three ways 4 in the doors 6.5 in the rear deck (cut holes) and the highs in the rear panels above the rear deck. sub i would go jl audio i have had good luck with there subs i am running a jlw7 13.5 but if i had to do it again i would go with the 10 for box size. take out the stock sub and you have your trunk ported i love this about our cars. and as far as keeping your stock deck dont go cheap rca converter your sound will suffer get a lc6 from audio control it will give a clean signal from your stock deck. rockford fosgate also sale one.

Here's my setup, and to me it sounds like an orchestra, and the headunit's not even in yet. Just not worth the hundreds or thousands of extra dollars for it to sound a little better.

Front: MB Quart Premium 6.5" components: $120 shipped
Rear: Polk db 6.5" components: $50 on Craiglist
Swapped the tweeters in the rear for MBQuart tweeters I found in the classifieds: $20
FatMat bulk roll: $85 shipped (eBay) (Good stuff, smells a bit like asphalt, but doesn't bother me. If it does you, look for butyl-based stuff like brown bread or something. DynaMat is overpriced most people say -- I'd agree.)
4x55 a/d/s amp: $40 Craigslist
250x1 MTX amp: $0 pulled from a car I drove in 1998. Can't believe I still have it.
Infinity Kappa Perfect 10": $30
Sealed sub box: $36 shipped SonicElectronics
Polyfil batting: $5 Wal-Mart
JLAudio 4-channel RCAs: $30 shipped eBay
Scosche LOC: $20 shipped classifieds
1/2" MDF for template cutout: $10 Home Depot
8 ga wire kit for sub amp: $10 for the fuse, found the rest in the junk bin at work.
Monster cable 10 ga wire kit for 4-ch amp: $12 shipped eBay
Eclipse DDIN touchscreen CD/DVD/sat radio/bluetooth/etc/etc player: $325 shipped

...that's about it. So, what, $800? Sold my OEM speakers, and will sell the amp, CD changer, maybe I'll get $50 total after I ship...so $750ish. Wow, didn't realize I spent that much!

heres a system build log i did on my gs about a year ago:

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/car-au...xus-gs300.html

since then ive changed the sub from one 12" re mx in ported box to two 10" re se's in 4th order box ported through the rear deck. i LOVE it a million times more. i get 100x's less the rattle from the trunk and outside, more bass inside and its very clean and loud.

and recently after this last saturday, it now looks like this:
