We've got several NorCal Veteran members with fully shaved rear fender lips for 5+ years and cumulatively 100k+ miles driven with NO separation, NO signs of warpage or bending due to a SO CALLED weakening of the fenders.
This topic has been reviewed for like 5+ years worth of posts.
Do some homework searching the forum threads and you will find:
- Some sad stories of people who rolled their rear fenders and dimpled , cracked paint, etc.
- No Stories of problems with shaving rear fenders.
Let's not compare experiences people have had with shaving / rolling on their Honda, non-Lexus Cars, etc. Let's compare apples to apples with advice from members who have direct experience with the GS.
If anyone can recommend a QUALIFIED shop to roll fenders who will Guarantee their work against Paint Cracking IN THE LONG RUN please do so.
As for front fenders, the sheetmetal is a lot thinner gauge so rolling is more of an option than shaving, though paint cracking can still be an issue.

YOU CAN NOT ROLL THE REAR FENDERS WITH OUT DIMPLES. I had mine done by a reputable shop and they still dimpled. yes they used a fender roller and heat gun. there are 2-3 tabs there for structural support and they will dimple. fronts are easy to roll. the shop paid for my car to get fix so i have no problems, but listen to rmmgs4.

Like everyone said if you want the easier way you can cut the rear and reseal the inside. But if you roll like I did it will cause it to dimple, meaning you will need to use bondo, sand and repaint.
Here are the pros and cons of both
Shaving rear fenders
Pros: Easy, saves money
Cons: Loses structural integrity (if some one bumps you fron the rear end it will buckle much easier) and easier to start rusting.
Rolling rear fenders
Pros: Increases strength
Cons: will dimple and need body work and paint to do it properly.

Just ask SoCalCryo
If someone bumps you from the rear so hard that your fender could buckle due this mod, I'd say you would already have enough other damage to total the car.
Just ask Chrispy
Paint after the shaving is done is a good recommendation. Easy fix for this right?
I fully shaved and painted my rear fenders 4 years ago, no problems.
Just ask me
